Ready for the fall session

Teacher’s Strike
Danielle Smith’s government has pushed Alberta’s education system to the breaking point. As a result, teachers are set to go on strike on Monday, Oct. 6 after rejecting the UCP’s latest contract offer with 89.5 per cent voting against the deal. Parents are left scrambling and students’ learning is on hold.
For years since the UCP took over, Alberta has had the lowest-funded classrooms in the country and the UCP government continues to insult teachers with offers that don’t meet their needs or improve classroom conditions.
I and my Alberta New Democrat caucus colleagues stand with the teachers, parents, and students who all will ultimately suffer from this government’s actions.
If you want to show your support, let the UCP know what your kids' class sizes are, what classroom conditions are like, and encourage the government to do the right thing and support public education. Here are email addresses for the Premier ([email protected]), Education ([email protected]), and the Minister of Treasury Board and Finance ([email protected])

Joe with volunteers out on the doors!
Summer Recap
My heart-felt thank you to everyone who joined us this summer as we knocked on the doors or more than 1,000 constituents.
We got our steps in and had a lot of great conversations with our neighbours.
Topics that were top of mind for folks included: affordability, a deteriorating health care system, and an unnecessary push for separatism.
We’ll be back on the doors following the municipal election, check out our signup link here: https://volunteer.albertandp.ca/CBUF/

Back in Session
MLAs will be back in the Alberta Legislature on October 23. My caucus colleagues and I are thrilled that we will be joined in the Legislature this session by our Leader Naheed Nenshi who was elected on June 23 as the MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona. We will also be joined by new MLA Gurtej Singh Brar who won the Edmonton-Ellerslie byelection on June 23.
Our priority for this Legislative session will be to push back against the dangerous, destructive, and expensive legislation forced on Albertans by this UCP government. From coal mining in the Eastern Slopes, to the continued onslaught against public health care and public education, to policies that will harm seniors and people living on AISH - the message is clear: this government does not care about Albertans, and their policies are making life harder and more expensive for Albertans.
Municipal Election
I’ve got a few thoughts about how I will be voting in the upcoming municipal election. If you are interested in finding out what they are, please go to my Facebook page. It is riveting reading.
